Regulation for Fire Patrol on Ships as per SOLAS

 Every Ship shall comply with the following regulations:

  • An efficient patrol system shall be maintained for ships carrying more than 36 passengers so that an outbreak of fire may be promptly detected.
  • Each member of the fire patrol shall be trained to be familiar with the arrangements of the ship as well as the location and operation of any equipment be may be called upon to use.
  • Fire patrols shall provide an effective means of detecting and locating fires and alerting the navigational bridge and fire teams.
  • Each member of the fire patrol shall be provided with a two-way portable radiotelephone apparatus and it should be audible from any part of the ship.
  • The radiotelephone apparatus should be audible to obtain effective communications during the fire patrol rounds as specified on the checklist.
  • Manually operated call points shall be installed throughout the accommodation spaces, service spaces and control stations.
  • One manually operated call point shall be located at each exit and shall be readily accessible in corridors on each deck such that no part of the corridor is more than 20m from manually operated call points.
  • Every special category space in which fire patrol is not maintained shall be provided with fixed fire detection and fire alarm system complying with the requirements of SOLAS.
  • A public address system or other effective means of communication shall be available throughout the accommodation space, service space and control stations.
