SOLAS Regulation on Fire Control Plan

Fire Control Plan:



  • Fire Control Plan is a mandatory requirement of the SOLAS Convention under Chapter II-2 described under regulation 15.
  • The Fire Control Plan shall be set out into a booklet and a copy of which shall be supplied to each officer.
  • One copy of the Plan shall at all times be always available onboard in an accessible location.
  • Plans and Booklets shall be kept up to date, any alterations thereto shall be recorded as soon as practicable.
  • Description in such plans and booklets shall be in a language or languages required by the administration.  
  • If the language is neither English nor French, a transaction into one of those languages shall be included.        
  • A duplicate set of fire control plans or a booklet containing such plans shall be permanently stored in a prominently marked weathertight enclosure outside the deckhouse for the assistance of shore-side fire-fighting personnel.         
  • For passenger ships carrying more than 36 passengers, plans and booklets required by this regulation shall provide information regarding fire protection, fire detection, and fire extinction based on the guidelines issued by the Organization.        

  • Fire Control Plan shall be permanently exhibited for the guidance of the ship's officers, showing clearly the following:
    • Control stations on each deck.
    • Particulars of Fire detection and Fire alarm systems.
    • The sprinkler Installations.
    • The fire-extinguishing appliances.
    • Location and number of fireman's outfit on board ship.
    • Location and number of EEBD onboard ship.
    • QCV remote operation positions.
    • Means of escape to different compartments, decks, etc.
    • Location of International Shore Connections.
    • Location and number of Fire Hydrants/Hoses location.
    • Ship Particulars.
    • Location and number of fire pumps.
    • Spaces protected by Fixed fire fighting systems CO2 / Dry powder / Foam / Water.
    • Location of fixed CO2 / Dry powder / Foam / Water.
    • The ventilation systems including particulars of the fan control positions.
    • The position of dampers.
    • Identification number of the ventilation fans serving each station.
    • Any other  Fire fighting appliances with specific applications.
