What are all the markings on an Inflatable Liferafts and its container onboard the ship?

Markings on Inflatable Liferaft:

Inflatable Liferafts shall be marked with:

  • Maker's Name or trademark.
  • Serial Number.
  • Date of Manufacture (Month and Year).
  • Name of the Approving Authority.
  • Name and Place of the last Service.
  • The number of persons it is permitted to accommodate.
  • Provision shall be made for marking each liferaft with the name and port of registry of the ship to which it is to be fitted, in such a form that the ship identification can be changed at any time without opening the container.

Markings on Containers for Inflatable Liferaft:

The liferafts shall be packed in a container that is so constructed so as to withstand hard wear conditions encountered at sea.

It should have sufficient buoyancy and as far as practicable watertight and is normally provided with a drain hole in the container bottom.

The liferafts shall be packed in its container in such a way to ensure, as far as possible, that when waterborne liferaft inflates in an upright position on breaking free from its container.



The containers shall be marked with:

  • Maker's name or trademark.
  • Serial Number
  • Name of approving Authority
  • No. of persons it is permitted to carry.
  • SOLAS
  • Type of emergency pack enclosed
  • Date when last serviced
  • Length of the painter
  • Mass of the packed liferaft, if greater than 185 Kg.
  • The maximum permitted height of storage above the waterline (depending on the drop test height and the length of the painter)
  • Launching Instructions
